Bad Weekend, Good Music

It’s been kind of a sucky weekend. Irrational. Complicated. Difficult.

So I settled into single-girl cliché: cookie dough, Sex and the City DVDs, and a couple of long walks. And a new, kinda random playlist that (surprise!) had me dancing around like a crazy person and feeling a little more like myself by the end of this afternoon.

A good combination of emotional ballads (excellent for crying and/or belting), hang-in-there lyrics (the sun will come out tomorrow), and a little bit of “Fuck it.” Exactly what I needed.

None of these are my normal go-to cheer-me-up songs, but they really worked.

  1. Hallelujah – Rufus Wainwright
  2. You’re So Vain – Carly Simon
  3. Only the Good Die Young – Billy Joel
  4. I Want to Hold Your Hand – The Beatles
  5. Can’t Buy Me Love – The Beatles
  6. Eight Days a Week – The Beatles
  7. Yesterday – The Beatles
  8. Hey Jude – The Beatles
  9. Jackson – Hem
  10. Extraordinary Machine – Fiona Apple
  11. Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song) – Fiona Apple
  12. Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee – Stockard Channing
  13. Those Magic Changes – Sha-Na-Na
  14. Hallelujah – John Cale
  15. Don’t Cry for Me Argentina – Madonna
  16. I Won’t Back Down – Blake Shelton and Dia Frampton
  17. I’m The Only One – Beverly McClellan
  18. Man in the Mirror – Adam Levine and Javier Colon
  19. Whatever it Is – Zac Brown Band
  20. Jolene – Zac Brown Band
  21. Let it Go – Zac Brown Band
  22. Ring Them Bells – Sarah Jarosz
  23. Red Headed Woman – Bruce Springsteen
  24. Dog Days are Over – Florence + The Machine
